American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the most decorated American skiers in U.S. history. She entered the 2022 Olympics as a three-time Olympic medalist and the defending Gold medalist in the giant slalom event.

On Monday, Shiffrin was ousted after posting a DNF during her first run of the women's giant slalom. After the run, she spoke to NBC reporters and talked about her performance and how much this run will both her.

“I'm going to reset, focus on what I can control on the slalom
 still a long two weeks to go and I am still looking forward to it. I am sorry that that was the performance that I did today, but that also happens,” Shiffrin said. “I won't hide the disappointment but I'm also not going to dwell on that because that is not going to help me at all.”

Shiffrin is planning on competing in all four alpine skiing events remaining in Beijing.

“”I mean, it's hard not to dwell
 I'm always dwelling on these kind of heartbreaking days,” Shiffrin said. “But I just cannot afford to spend, or waste, energy on something that's now in the past 
 I'm going to reset, focus on what I can control for the slalom.

The slalom is her next event is scheduled and is set for Wednesday.

The United States is yet to win a gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. They have won three silvers and no bronze either. Russia leads the current medal count with six medals, two of each type.
