After his massive debut in Final Fantasy XIV, Twitch streamer Asmongold has been having a blast in Eorzea. Since then, he's patiently gone through A Realm Reborn's main scenario quests. He even faced the base game's raids and extreme trials on minimum item level settings.

The Warm Heavensward Welcome

A couple of days ago, he finally reached FFXIV's first expansion – Heavensward. To mark the occasion, a lot of players lined up on the bridge to Ishgard (the Heavensward expansion's main city) to welcome him. A legion of Dark Knights in front of campfires lined each side of the bridge while players on all sorts of mounts flew overhead. Asmongold even had trouble getting into the zones at first due to congestion. He was rendered speechless at some points, and thoroughly expressed his gratitude to the fans that made the effort.

After walking around in awe of the crowd that had assembled to welcome him, he gave his thoughts on his experience in A Realm Reborn so far. He expressed that he found it “not that bad” in spite of all the warnings he got about the FFXIV base game being something of a slog.

Asmongold's thoughts on the FFXIV Community

To cap it off, he also reflected on the community aspect of Final Fantasy XIV and the players he met along the way, saying:

“I think the main reason people like this game is like, yeah, the gameplay is good, it's nice. The worlds are really great, the story is fun, absolutely. But what really makes it is the people, right? It's the community. It's the environments. It's the crowded areas with the chatter, and you can feel like you're amongst friends. You can feel like you're part of a group of people that… you know, they're glad that you're there. It's the experience that everybody knows and loves in MMOs. And I think that's one thing that so many games nowadays have forgotten about. It's that shared space and that shared experience.”

It's certainly a sentiment that tugs at the MMORPG heartstrings and sets the genre apart from the rest. FFXIV has seen a lot of positive traction recently, so it's especially heartwarming to see the community come together for something like this.
