Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is one of the most talented players in baseball. He is also one of the most injury-prone players in the MLB.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch told MLB.com's Brian McTaggart that Correa is probably heading back to the Injured List after exiting last night's game against the Detroit Tigers:

Hinch told reporters that he does not think the injury is serious, but that he still expects Correa to miss time:

“He’s doing a little bit better, but he’s not doing well enough to play,” said Hinch. “I’m not optimistic that he’s going to be able to avoid the IL. We’ll make the determination tonight and into tomorrow. We haven’t seen anything that’s made us believe that this is anything major or massive, but it’s going to take a couple days — and certainly up to 10 days — to mend.”

This is not the first time that Correa has had back issues, as he missed six weeks due to a back injury in 2018. Correa has also missed over 50 games this year due to a cracked rib.

Though the Astros have a ton of depth and will be able to plug Alex Bregman in at shortstop for the time being, Correa's durability issues continue to put a damper on his potential as an elite talent.

In contrast to last season, Correa has thrived at the plate this season when he has been healthy. The 24-year-old is slashing .278/.358/.556 with a 137 OPS+ in his first 310 plate appearances while also playing the best defense of his career (four defensive runs saved).
