The Houston Astros opened their three-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday with an 8-3 win but they aren't too feeling good about it with star second baseman Jose Altuve sustaining a left hamstring injury.

Altuve was not able to finish the game, as he was taken out in the eighth inning, with the Astros well ahead at that point. While the sight of Altuve grimacing in pain after hitting a single was a concerning one, especially for Houston fans, the diminutive infielder tried to allay fears of a serious injury with an optimistic remark following the contest, per the  Associated Press (via ESPN).

“I'm actually feeling better than what I was expecting but we'll see tomorrow,” he said.

It doesn't seem to be anything serious, with Astros manager Dusty Baker saying that Altuve is considered day to day, which also probably means a trip to the injured list looks unlikely at the moment.

Jose Altuve has a left hamstring strain and is day to day, manager Dusty Baker said.

Houston could play it safe and let Altuve sit out the second leg of the series against the Angels.

Altuve has been cold so far this 2022 MLB season, as he is hitting just .167/.268/.250, but better days could be in store for him — after he recovers from his lower-body injury.
