Hugh Freeze is entering his first season as the head coach of the Auburn football program, and he came into preseason camp “anxious” and “uncomfortable” with so much change on the roster. He was blunt, saying he did not know how good they would be this season. Freeze and the Auburn football program are getting ready for their first game against UMass, and Freeze spoke about the quarterback situation with Payton Thorne as the starter, but Robby Ashford figuring to be involved as well.

“Robby, if he handles things the right way, he has to get on the field,” Hugh Freeze said, via ESPN. “He's different.”

Robby Ashford was the starter last season for Auburn, and Freeze said he is the most athletic quarterback he has ever coached, according to ESPN. Knowing that, whether Payton Thorne struggles and Ashford is inserted as the quarterback, or Thorne has success, it seems as if Ashford will have a role on the team.

It will be interesting to see how the game against the UMass football program goes. With the uncertainty that Freeze had with his team, and UMass winning their first game of the season against New Mexico State, it will be intriguing to see if Auburn handles business as expected, or if UMass can surprise some people and make it a closer game than anticipated.

If Thorne struggles early on, Freeze could turn to Ashford in the game to try to spark the offense, as we know he is high on Ashford's talent.
