With Barcelona's injury problems continuing to mount, the club is eyeing a Premier League star in the January transfer window. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barca is interested in making a move for Man City star Raheem Sterling.

The report also states that the La Liga giants were close to getting a deal over the line for Sterling this summer, but due to Barcelona's financial issues, they were unable to complete the signing. Apparently, the club's director of football even travelled to England to further negotiations for the England international, which included the possibility of a swap deal with Sergio Roberto, Antoine Griezmann, or Ousmane Dembele.

Sterling has fallen out of favor under Pep Guardiola, starting just two games this term for the Premier League champions. He remains very important to the Three Lions though and starred at Euro 2020, scoring three goals and supplying an assist. Needless to say, Barcelona could definitely use a vibrant attacker like Sterling.

Sergio Aguero has yet to play for the club due to injuries, while Martin Brathwaite is also out for a few months. They did sign Luuk de Jong to pair with Memphis Depay up top, but nonetheless, the Catalans could use more prowess in the final third.

Big deals don't usually materialize in January and it seems unlikely that City would sell Sterling entirely. Barcelona would probably get him on a loan deal but after lighting up the English top-flight for years, he would certainly shine in Spain.
