Many thought it would never come. But Lionel Messi is now out of Barcelona. What seemed an impossible thought has become a difficult reality.

With him moving to Paris Saint-Germain, Messi’s iconic no. 10 with the Catalans is now up for grabs. But while it’s fair to assume that some are not willing to use it as a sign of respect for the legendary striker, veteran members of Barcelona have already reportedly decided who Messi’s jersey number should go to (via Heavy).

Some members of the squad have already decided who should wear the no. 10 next at Barcelona, according to journalist Santi Ovalle. The players would like to see Messi’s close friend and new signing Sergio Aguero take over the number.

Not a bad pick at all. Especially since Aguero, Messi’s teammate on Argentina, already wore no. 10 during his illustrious stint with Manchester City. Aguero holds the Citizens’ record for most career goals with 184.

But inheriting Messi’s number could be a double-edged sword. While it’s certainly an immense honor, it will also come with huge expectations, particularly with Aguero’s caliber. Some rabid Barcelona fans (and there are MANY) might also be enraged to see no. 10 go to a different player. Watching a new guy wear the kit at Camp Nou could look blasphemous.

But not many might recall that Messi also just inherited it from former Barcelona star forward Ronaldinho in 2008.

To be clear, nothing is official yet. For all we know, Sergio Aguero will refuse to wear Lionel Messi’s no. 10.
