In a move that came out of left field, Barcelona announced the free transfer signing of longtime fullback Dani Alves on Friday.

The two sides agreed to a mere one-year deal for the remainder of the season. For now, the Brazilian defender will take part in scheduled training sessions with the team beginning this week. He will not feature in fixtures until January.

Alves played in a notable eight seasons with Barca before his departure for Juventus over the 2016 summer transfer window. The Brazilian talent won a combined 23 trophies over six different competitions during his first run at Barca and also shared countless fixtures on the pitch with midfielder Sergio Busquets.

For the longtime Barca midfielder, he is much enthusiastic to see Alves make a long-awaited return to the club.

In speaking during a press conference ahead of the Spanish national team's upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Sweden, Busquets kept it simple with his reaction on this reunion for Alves.

“It's a joy,” Busquets said.

Busquets is much confident that this move will pay off for Barca due to several notable reasons.

“We know the player Dani is, knowing the professional he is and what he's delivered at his clubs and with his national team,” Busquets said. “He will bring us a lot in the dressing room with his character, his winning mentality, his leadership.

“Let's hope it goes well. I'm looking forward to sharing a dressing room with him again.”

It sure will be noteworthy to see on how new Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez plans to utilize Alves over this season. Not only does Alves have vast experience in featuring as a fullback, but he has had playing time minutes as both a midfielder and winger, as seen during his runs at Paris Saint-Germain, Sao Paulo and the Brazil Olympic Team.
