With the January transfer window quickly approaching, Barcelona is on the verge of completing its first big signing in the Xavi era. The Catalan giants have reached an agreement with Manchester City winger Ferran Torres, who is expected to join on a permanent basis worth a total of €65 million. Via Fabrizio Romano:

As noted by Romano, Xavi has always been very keen on Torres, who starred for Valencia before making a big-money move to the Etihad in 2020. While Barcelona and City have agreed on the transfer, there are still some hoops to jump through on Barca's side.

As we know, they've been in financial turmoil, which is one of the main reasons Lionel Messi was forced to leave for PSG. That being said, the club will need to free up some of their debt by selling a few different players in January in order to actually register Torres as a Barcelona player. Sergio Aguero's sudden retirement helps, but the La Liga standouts still need to offload the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti, and Neto.

Attacking reinforcements were a massive priority for Xavi when he took over at Camp Nou last month and Torres will certainly come in handy. The youngster has bagged 16 goals in 43 appearances for the Premier League giants and scored another 12 in 22 games for Spain.

Torres hasn't played since October though when he injured his foot on international duty.
