EA announces that playtesting for Battlefield 2042 is coming next weekend. DICE’s fps shooter will become playable for a whole weekend for only a select few players starting August 12 – 15.
Battlefield 2042’s playtest will have five 3-hour sessions during the weekend. August 15 marks the playtest’s last day which features a 9-hour long session open to a few thousand players. EA also announced in their blog post that the playtest will also be focusing on cross-play. Hence, thousands of players in both the PC and console communities will be able to join forces. Take note that gameplay for playtesting doesn’t feature the finished product yet.
Sad to say, EA wants the playtest to be private which means we shouldn’t be expecting any in-depth gameplay reveal next weekend. The selected players need to sign a strict NDA before they can participate in the playtest.
Battlefield 2042 takes place in a futuristic war full of dilemmas and chaos. In the year 2042, the world is experiencing supply and food shortages. By this time, climate change has gone wild in some continents, making it difficult for people to even live. All nations failed to maintain peace and order which leads to a global war. Now, even average people have become soldiers to fight for their survival.
Throughout the years, the Battlefield franchise always had a story-driven single-player experience. This time around, Battlefield 2042 will focus on the multiplayer aspect of the game. DICE plans to let the story of the game revolve around multiplayer gameplay with real-time events popping up weekly. Battlefield 2042 will officially launch come October 22, 2021.
