The Chicago Bears have decided to sign another place kicker on Friday, going with Tulsa's Redford Jones.

The Bears likely brought Jones in to compete with current place kicker Cody Parkey after Parkey struggled throughout the season. Most notably, Parkey missed a field goal in the NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles that would have won the game for the Bears and sent them to the divisional round. Parkey went 23-for-30 on the season for a 76.7 percent rate and clearly was not the clutch kicker the Bears hoped he would be in 2018.

Redford Jones has not played in the NFL yet, but it's worth noting Jones had a very successful career with Tulsa. Jones went 169-of-172 on extra points and 50-of-67 on field goals from 2015-2017.

The move doesn't exactly say Jones will take over place kicking duties, but head coach Matt Nagy suggested after the Wild Card game that the team would do its part in addressing the position for the future. The Bears players have stood behind Parkey, but it's worth noting Nagy was not thrilled with Parkey's “TODAY Show” interview. Nagy suggested it was more of a “me” move rather than a “we” decision, and Nagy has made it clear the team has to work as one cohesive unit.

Although his teammates have defended Parkey and stuck by his side, it's a true possibility that the Chicago Bears are increasingly focused on moving on from Parkey despite signing a four-year deal work $19 million ahead of the 2018 season.
