The Chicago Bears are hoping to revert to having a stout defense in 2020 and they've added a new member to the secondary. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Chicago is signing safety Jordan Lucas to a one-year, $1 million deal.

Just a couple of days ago, the Bears lost Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency to the Dallas Cowboys. Therefore, Chicago was in the market for a defensive back that could help fill the void left by the Pro Bowl safety.

Lucas was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Then, after a two-year stint in Miami, Lucas was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a seventh-round pick.

Over the past two seasons, Lucas has been a depth option in the secondary for the Chiefs. In his first season with Kansas City, Lucas started in four games, tallying 32 tackles and an interception.

However, the Penn State product has spent his time in Kansas City backing up Tyrann Mathieu and Eric Berry. At the same time, he got a chance to learn from some of the best safeties in recent years. Provided that, Lucas could get an opportunity to prove his worth with the Bears next season.

The Bears are attempting to find a safety that allows Eddie Jackson to return to being strictly a free safety. Whether Chicago gives Lucas a chance to become the starter alongside Jackson remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the Bears could have found a gem in Lucas after signing him to a one-year deal.
