The Chicago Bears broke the internet after trading Khalil Mack away to the Los Angeles Chargers. However, the franchise continues to make surprising decisions as the team is clearly entering a rebuild. Hopefully, these moves lead to the front office building around Justin Fields, as the defense is shaping up to possibly one of the worst in the NFL next season.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Bears have decided to release stand-out defensive tackle Eddie Goldman. The 28-year old will hit free agency and likely fetch plenty of interest from across the league. For Chicago, this move likely gives them more cap space as the front office prepares to go all-in on acquiring new faces to the roster.

That's two major contributors on the defense gone within two days. It's not looking good for Chicago's chances to make the playoffs next season, but these decisions could pay off in the long run. The Bears are set to have a ton of cap space in the 2023 offseason and could still make some noise between now and the upcoming NFL Draft.

We'll see how the front office approaches free agency and the draft. The smart decision would be to build a competent offense around Justin Fields. He has all of the potential in the world as he's now the centerpiece to the Bears' future. If Chicago fails to improve the offense, then these moves are all for naught.

So, with Khalil Mack and Eddie Goldman out of the picture, look for the Bears to possibly select some defensive studs in the NFL Draft. This year's class is loaded with talent on that side of the ball. If that's the direction Chicago goes, then so be it.
