The Chicago Bears will be without inside linebacker Roquan Smith for the rest of their “Thursday Night Football” matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced. The second-year standout from the University of Georgia suffered a pectoral injury in the first quarter of the tilt.

While assumptions are just that, the speed at which the Bears announced Smith's pectoral injury is frightening. A torn pectoral is an easily diagnosable one. The training staff and Smith could tell if it happened on the spot. If he did suffer a torn pectoral, he will be out for the rest of the 2019 campaign.

If Smith is out, it is a massive blow to the Bears defense. He is a standout for the team, which they suspected he'd be when they drafted him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Smith currently leads the Bears in combined tackles by a large margin, tallying 98 combined ones on the season. He has also recorded two sacks, five pass deflections, an interception, five tackles for loss and a pair of quarterback hits in 2019.

According to Pro Football Reference, Smith allows a 72.8 passer rating in coverage. In doing so, quarterbacks are 38 for 57 for 308 yards, no touchdowns and an interception while throwing his way.

The Bears entered the game against the Cowboys without another one of their starting inside linebackers, as Danny Trevathan is out with an elbow injury. Losing both Trevathan and Smith does not bode well for their hopes of making the 2019 playoffs after a disappointing start to the season.
