After failing to score a touchdown in the Chicago Bears’ season opener against the Detroit Lions last week, David Montgomery would not be denied this time.

The 23-year old running back wasted no time in finding the end zone in the Bears’ Week 2 match against the New York Giants, weaving past the New York defense and multiple defenders on a cutback for a 28-yard touchdown off a pass from quarterback Mitch Trubisky to put Chicago on the board with 7:25 left in the first quarter. The score finished a 12-play, 82-yard drive for the Bears, who are looking for a 2-0 start after beating the Lions 27-23 in their first game of the season.

Montgomery had 13 carries and 64 rushing yards against the Lions, but couldn’t find the end zone despite Chicago’s win.

The former Iowa State player was selected by the Bears in the 2019 NFL Draft with the 73rd overall pick in the third round and is looking to build on a successful rookie season. In 16 games with the team last year, he finished with 242 rushing attempts, 889 rushing yards, and six rushing touchdowns while adding 25 receptions, 185 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown.

The Bears are looking for back-to-back wins in head coach Matt Nagy’s third season with the team. They had a disappointing 2019 season that saw them finish with an 8-8 record to finish third in the NFC North and miss out on the playoffs. This was after a 2018 season that saw them finish with a 12-4 record and Nagy winning the league’s Coach of the Year award in his first year with the team.
