The Detroit Lions had another disappointing season. They went 3-13-1, and only one team had a worse record than them: the 3-14 Jacksonville Jaguars. There are a lot of things that go into the Lions' struggles this season, including a pretty difficult schedule. They faced playoff teams eight times during the regular season, including the AFC and NFC Champions in the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams. The Lions also have quite a few holes in their 53-man roster.

For one, there aren't really any stars on offense. Running back D'Andre Swift was the most productive offensive weapon for the Lions this season with 617 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, as well as 452 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Moving forward, the Lions need to draft another wide receiver to accompany rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown. He had a decent first year in the league but doesn't appear to be a number one receiver in the NFL.

That being said, the Lions should take this business to the NFL Free Agency. They need to find a top receiver that is experienced and already established in the league. This will give St. Brown someone to look up to and strive to be during his early years in professional football.

But what's a top receiver without someone to throw him the ball? That's where the Lions' number one issue comes into play. Detroit needs a better quarterback.

Jared Goff isn't going to get this team back on track. The Los Angeles Rams knew it a year prior and fooled the Lions into trading Matthew Stafford. Now, the Rams are the NFC Champions and are Super Bowl bound.

Out of the Lions and Rams trade of Stafford for Goff, the Lions also got a first-round pick for the 2022 NFL Draft. This means that they have two first-round selections in this year's draft: their No. 2 overall pick and the later pick from their quarterback trade.

There are plenty of quarterbacks on the market within the NFL, but it isn't too likely that any quality candidates would be willing to come to Detroit. That being said, the Lions might want to consider using one of their two first-round picks to draft a young quarterback.

The most promising quarterback in the 2022 draft class is Kenny Pickett. The 23-year-old from the University of Pittsburgh is being recognized as one of the most impressive quarterbacks ahead of the 2022 Senior Bowl.

Pickett spent five years as a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Panthers, utilizing the extra year of eligibility granted to 2020 fall athletes. In his fifth year, Pickett set school records and threw for 4,066 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions during the regular season.

Malik Willis is also a top prospect that has impressed scouts during 2022 Senior Bowl week. The quarterback from Liberty University has a strong arm, with accuracy as his main concern.

However the Lions acquire a new quarterback, they have to do it soon. As soon as the playoffs end, teams throughout the NFL will be picking up deals with free agents left and right. If the Lions do decide to select a quarterback like Willis or Pickett in the 2022 NFL Draft, they have a great opportunity to do it. The only team ahead of them in the draft is the Jaguars, who selected their franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence last year.
