The Serbian king of tennis continued to plow over the competition as the French Open resumed. After his victory against Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round, Novak Djokovic aimed to retain his 100% win rate against Marton Fucsovics.
The Hungarian tennis player entered the first set with high hopes for a close match. He delivered aggressive attacks and well-timed receptions against Djokovic. Fucsovics extended the set for as long as he could but his legs eventually gave out. Set 1 ended with a 7-6 scoreline in favor of the number 3 ranked ATP player.
Set 2 was a different story as Fucsovics completely imploded. He would not win a point as Djokovic outclassed him all throughout. Novak completed the sweep 6-0. Marton Fucsovics showed grit and determination in order to avoid demolition in the third set but the Serbian would break his spirits as the set ended 6-3.
TV cameras were intrigued not because he dominantly won but because of something in his chest. The Serbian's chest had a bottle-cap-like metal object taped on it. Commentators then made fun of the tennis star for looking like Iron Man and Djokovic sarcastically responded.
“When I was a kid I liked Iron Man a lot, so I try to impersonate Iron Man. My team delivers incredibly efficient nanotechnology to help me deliver my best on the court, so that’s the biggest secret of my career. If it wasn’t for that, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here,” he said jokingly in a post-game interview, per Howard Fendrich of AP News.
Novak Djokovic's Iron Man-like performance needs to continue as a French Open championship breaks his tie with Rafael Nadal for the most majors won in tennis.
