The Buffalo Bills have hired former Houston Texans general manager Brian Gaine as a senior personnel advisor, according to Field Yates of ESPN. Gaine will assist in both college and pro scouting in the role.

Gaine has worked for the Bills in the past, serving as the team's vice president of player personnel under current general manager Brandon Beane two years ago.

The Pearl River, N.Y. native was hired as the Texans' general manager in January 2018, but he was fired after just one season largely due to his rather tenuous relationship with Houston head coach Bill O'Brien.

Gaine landed his first NFL job all the way back in 1999, when he was named a scout for the New York Jets, a position he held through 2004. He then joined the Dallas Cowboys as the team's director or pro scouting, remaining at that post through 2007.

Following his stint with the Cowboys, Gaine headed to the Miami Dolphins, serving as assistant director of pro personnel from 2008 through 2010. He then was promoted to Dolphins director or player personnel in 2011, and in 2012, he was elevated to the role of assistant general manager, where he served through 2013.

Gaine proceeded to move on to the Texans for his first stint with the club in 2014, as he held the position of director of player personnel through 2016 before heading over to Buffalo for his first go-around with the Bills.

Buffalo is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which it won just six games, one year after making the playoffs for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
