The Buffalo Bills are expected to have a hectic free agency period later this month. Among the items that may end up being on the agenda for Bills general manager Brandon Beane this month centers on the contract situation regarding wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Overall, Diggs has two more years remaining on his current contract deal. He will hold a $17.9 million cap hit for the 2022 season. He held a $6.3 million cap hit for the 2021 season, and it is safe to say that he exceeded his contract value as he recorded 103 receptions and 1,225 receiving yards. The versatile receiver also notched 10 receiving touchdowns, as he formed keen chemistry with quarterback Josh Allen.

As Beane noted to WGR 550 Sports Radio earlier this week, he is not ruling out the possibility of coming to terms with Diggs on a new contract extension deal in the coming months. But as it stands, he has not had firm talks with Diggs and his representatives regarding this matter.

“We'll look at everything,” Beane said. “Definitely guys that have higher cap numbers like that you look at everything, whether it's restructuring it, adding years. We'll look at everything. You can definitely know we will look at Stef's contract at some point and see if there is something that makes sense for both sides. But we haven't begun any conversations with him at this point.”

Last year, Beane opted to restructure Diggs’ contract, as he converted more than $11.7 million of the receiver’s base salary for the 2021 season into a signing bonus. In the big picture, one sure can not count out the odds of Beane pushing to once again restructure Diggs’ contract as a way to free up cap space for the upcoming free agency period.

Diggs could be in line for a major payday when his time comes to enter into contract talks. Spotrac projects a market value of a $22.1 million average annual value deal for the wideout, which could possibly earn him a four-year deal worth around $88 million.

It remains to be seen whether the Bills will entertain the possibility of making Diggs one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL today.
