CJ McCollum and James Harden each had scintillating 44-point performances for their respective squads on Saturday night. But it was McCollum's Portland Trail Blazers that came out on top over the Harden's Houston Rockets in a thrilling overtime showdown.
Following Portland's 128-126 victory, McCollum took to Twitter to express his excitement over their early season win over the Rockets. The 29-year old gave a shoutout to his mama after winning “line of the night” from Chris Palmer. Aside from his 44 points, the 2015-16 Most Improved Player finished with a career-best nine three-pointers, shot 17-of-30 from the field, and nailed the go-ahead three-pointer with 6.9 seconds to go that gave Portland the win.

StatMuse also reported that the 6-foot-3 guard's output became the most by any player who made one free-throw or less since Golden State Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson did it in January 2019. McCollum certainly had it going on Saturday night and he acknowledged how heavenly it felt to be in that kind of zone throughout the evening.

The NBA Twitter account compiled a montage of all his nine threes on the night and McCollum retweeted the video on his timeline.

Meanwhile, Memphis Grizzlies young stud Ja Morant couldn't believe what McCollum was doing out there, especially after the Blazers guard nailed what eventually became the game-winner. After the game, the LeHigh standout responded with a nod to playing with an under-the-radar college basketball program, same as Morant did in his two-year stint with Murray State.

McCollum certainly had a night to remember, considering that he also out-dueled James Harden. The 2017-18 NBA MVP paced the Rockets with 44 points and dished out 17 assists. Unfortunately, his efforts couldn't overcome a career ball game from McCollum as well as a 32-point performance from All-Star Damian Lillard.
