The Portland Trail Blazers are set to face off against the Miami Heat on Sunday, as they travel to South Beach in this inter-conference matchup. For Blazers big man Hassan Whiteside, this will be his first opportunity to play in his former stomping ground following his summer move to Portland.

Whiteside opened up about his homecoming, admitting that he is looking forward to a weird experience come Sunday.

“It's going to feel weird,” Whiteside said, via Ira Winderman of the South Beach Sun Sentinel. “I know it is, playing against guys that were my teammates, playing in front of the Heat fans, and having a different jersey. You know, I've got a lot of memories there. It's going to be interesting.”

Hassan Whiteside was part of a four-team trade in the offseason involving the Blazers, the Heat, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Philadelphia 76ers, which centered around All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler. Since then, the 7-foot big man has found a home in Portland, and has been playing some of the best basketball of his career.

Whiteside is currently averaging 15.7 points (on 59.9 percent shooting), 13.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and a league-leading 2.8 blocks per contest. The 30-year-old has also been able to remain healthy for the better part of the season, and has suited up for no less than 33 out of his team's 36 games played thus far.

It's going to be a tough test for Whiteside and the Blazers on Sunday, though, with the Heat currently in possession of one of the best home records in the entire league. Miami has lost only once out of their 17 home games this season, but with the revenge game narrative on his mind, Whiteside will definitely want to come away with the win against his former side.
