Blazers’ Hassan Whiteside responds to Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley’s criticism

Hassan Whiteside wasn’t too peeved when he heard about TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal criticism of him in the Portland Trailblazers’ 101-107 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.

The pair of Hall of Famers called out Whiteside during  Inside the NBA’s halftime segment for his supposed lackluster performance in the first half.  Barkley even went as far as claiming that Whiteside is “stealing money” from the Blazers because of his uninspired play.

The 30-year-old slotman said he expected some criticism from Shaq after his teammate Damian Lillard “killed him in a rap battle”, while he believes Chuck is just there to play along.

Whiteside only had two points and six rebounds to his name after the first two quarters, while his counterpart Ivica Zubac already had 11 points and nine boards at that point.

To his credit, Whiteside did bounce back in the final two quarters of the ball game, as he finished with a solid double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds. Still, it was not enough as the Blazers lost for the fifth time in eight games.

“It was a tale of two halves. I had a bad first half. I had two early fouls, I had two turnovers. I might have had six rebounds.  It was a tough firsthalf, I’m not perfect. I’ve had really good first halves and really bad second halves. I just happen to have a really good second half this time,” he said, per Ben Golliver.

Whiteside is currently averaging 14.3 points and 12 rebounds in his first season in Portland.
