Getting eliminated from the playoffs isn’t something teams will get over in a day or two, especially when they were playing for the greatest trophy in sports AKA the Stanley Cup Trophy. And that’s certainly the case for Ryan O’Reilly and the St. Louis Blues, who really believed that they could take down the Colorado Avalanche in the second round.

Following a heartbreaking Game 6 loss to the Avs, O’Reilly looked back at the season the Blues and expressed regret over a missed opportunity to advance deeper in the postseason.

“Overall it’s a very disappointing season. We’re better than what we showed against these guys. We could’ve got that to 7 but when we lost Binner … there was a good chance there. It’s on myself, too, to kind of find a way to rally the group and respond the right way.”

Losing Jordan Binnington was truly huge for the Blues, who played the final three games of the series without their no. 1 goalie. In lieu of Binnington from Games 4 to 6 was Ville Husso, who gave the Blues a win in Game 5 and looked stout between the pipes in Game 6 until veteran Avs foward Darren Helm sniped one into the back of the net to break a tie with only seconds to go in regulation to end St. Louis’ season.
