According to a league source cited by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Boston Celtics will pick up their team option on Amir Johnson for the 2016-2017 season.

Johnson signed a two-year, $24 million contract that last summer after spending six seasons with the Toronto Raptors. The second year had a team option, which the Celtics just exercised.

Johnson averaged 8.5 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 66.7% from the field during Boston's first-round playoff matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. The former second round pick is a vital piece to a Celtics squad that is officially out of their rebuilding phase, and looking to win now.

Johnson will stay in his role as the starting power forward alongside newly-signed All-Star Center Al Horford, giving the Celtics a perfect mix of youth and experience in the front court.
