Paxton Lynch got his chance to prove to the Denver Broncos why he should be the quarterback of the future as he got two starts last season, but he struggled in both. After being a first-round pick in the 2016 draft it looked like his time with the Broncos might be coming to an end, but now he has a new chance as the backup.

The Broncos brought in Case Keenum to be the starter, and Lynch said that he is okay with being his backup for the time being.

“There is always room for improvement (but) I obviously believe I can go out and play right now,” Lynch said, per the Denver Post. “But that's not my job right now. Case is the guy and I'm doing everything I can to make the team better and make myself better. I'm obviously confident in my abilities and what I can do. I'm hanging my hat on that and I'll be ready.”

Lynch still has to compete with Chad Kelly for the backup quarterback role but during minicamp, he had a pretty solid grip on the second team offense, and it appears that is his job to lose.

Lynch is excited for Keenum to be on the roster, and he thinks he can learn a thing or two from the veteran, and he makes the entire quarterback room better.

“I was really excited, actually, when we got Case for the fact he’s a veteran guy who’s been through it a little bit and had his ups and downs,” Lynch said. “The way he carries himself and handles himself – he’s a pro and that only benefits me and the other guys in the locker room and the other guys in the quarterback room.”

Lynch is going to need to be ready to fill in if Keenum goes down. The Broncos seem to be good quarterback play away from competing in the AFC again, and whoever is under center is going to have the pressure on them
