For football players, painful losses do not always happen on the field. Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield gave his farewell to a Browns fan that has passed on.Ā

The fan is Tom Seipel. Through theĀ efforts of fellow fans, he was able to witness his favorite team clinch a playoff spot. Mayfield's wife, Emily heard about Seipel and made a way for him to watch the game from the family suite andĀ meet the quarterback after the contest. Seipel had a sudden surge of strength that made it possible for him to make the trip to FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland.

Following that closely contested game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns would deliver a beat down to that same team in the AFC Wild Card Game, 48-37. In the next game, Cleveland would fall short against the vaunted Kansas City Chiefs. Nevertheless, this was a great season for the Browns as this was the first time they reached the playoffs since 2002 and the first postseason win they had since 1994.Ā

Cleveland has a bright future ahead of it and has the ingredients to be contenders for years to come. They have a promising, young quarterback, a stout offensive line, a powerful rushing attack, a solid receiver corps, and a defense with strong pieces, like Myles Garrett. With the right management and player development, these Browns should be here to stay.Ā

The Browns have been one of the most miserable franchises in sports and yet have some of the most loyal fans, like Seipel. For all it's worth, at least the last Cleveland squad he saw was the best version of the team in years.Ā Ā
