The Cleveland Browns are not expected to release Josh Gordon as they initially announced on Saturday. Instead, it is expected that they will trade the troubled wide receiver before 4 pm ET on Monday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL network.

While Rapoport does not know where exactly Gordon will be going, he does expect the Browns to get “substantial compensation” in return for him.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that “at least eight to 10 teams” have called Cleveland about Gordon. That list includes the San Francisco 49ers, as GM John Lynch recently admitted that they have contacted the Browns regarding a potential deal for Gordon.

The 49ers are one of the top two teams Gordon would reportedly want to go to along with the Dallas Cowboys. However, Dallas reportedly doesn’t share the same interest in the wideout that San Francisco does.

As Rapoport notes, Gordon’s appeal for teams isn’t only his undeniable talent as a receiver, but also the fact that he’s also under contract on a very low salary, which would make it easier for teams to cut ties if he doesn’t work out.

And as his checkered time in Cleveland proves, there’s a decent chance that the Gordon experiment goes sideways for the next team he ends up on. He has an extensive track record of substance abuse problems, which has seen him play just 11 games over the last five years.

But Gordon’s first-team All-Pro ability is too tough for teams to pass up, especially for teams in desperate need of another playmaker at receiver, which is why one team will likely pay a decent price to take a chance on him.
