Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Kendell Beckwith is going to miss his second straight season after being played on the Reserve Non-Football Injury List with an ankle injury that could be career threatening according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.

“You hate to see guys lose their career off the field,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians said Friday. “For Kendell, he was a bright prospect and it's just unfortunate. You have to move on. For me, I was never really counting on him coming back. I was hoping, but that's one of the reasons Devin [White] is here.”

Beckwith was a third-round pick in the 2017 draft by the Buccaneers and as a rookie he looked like a long term option for the team. In April 2018 he allowed his former LSU teammate Lamin Barrow to drive his Camero to the gas station with him. Barrow lost control of the car and got in a crash and Beckwith required surgery to repair his broken ankle.

Beckwith did look like he was going to return at some point last season but the team ultimately decided that he wasn't ready to play.

He hasn't fully recovered from the ankle injury and at this point, it seems like a longshot that Beckwith will ever play football again.

The team did take LSU linebacker Devin White with the fifth overall pick and that should help sure up the linebacker position, a position that has struggled since Beckwith wasn't able to play last year. There is still a chance that Beckwith could return to the NFL but it won't be this upcoming season.
