With a couple of injuries to their secondary hitting home, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went out and signed Richard Sherman.

On Friday, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians said after his first week of practice, Sherman will be good to go and will be on the active roster Sunday night against the New England Patriots.

As though there weren't enough storylines going around in this game, the Buccaneers having Sherman on the active roster adds another layer.

Of course, the main narrative will be Tom Brady's return to Foxborough to take on the Patriots. Then there's the Brady – Bill Belichick angle on this game, followed by Rob Gronkowski also returning to take on New England. After that, Sherman and his story jump in the back of the line.

Sherman remained a free agent throughout the offseason. His off-field incident at his wife's parents' house didn't help matters. Given that the Buccaneers are dealing with injuries at cornerback, they decided to take a flier on Sherman.

The Buccaneers are off to a 2-1 start, but the defense has been lagging behind its expected standards to start the year. Meanwhile, the Patriots are 1-2, coming off a loss to the New Orleans Saints and trying to figure out what works and what doesn't for their rookie quarterback, Mac Jones.

Sunday night will be must-watch television. Sherman being active for the game and likely playing a large role on the defense for the Buccaneers adds another element to an incredible script.
