Health issues were a concern when Bruce Arians retired as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2017. According to reports, the now-Buccaneers coach has dropped some weight, and is looking to slim down even more in an effort to improve his physical well being.

Arians said Tuesday that he’s halfway to his goal of dropping 30 pounds, via JoeBucsFan.com.

Arians also ditched the golf cart in which he had been sitting during most practices throughout the first two phases of the offseason program and a voluntary minicamp. Per JoeBucsFan.com, Arians “looked like a new man” at Tuesday’s first OTA practice of the offseason.

This isn't the first time the coach has had to shed pounds before the season. Arians said before the 2014 season that he had put on 33 pounds the year prior, and the extra weight only adds to the already stressful job of being a NFL head coach.

“I think it's stress-related again, but I also quit working out,” told ESPN that year. “I just got back into it so that I can (keep coaching) as long as I want to. Because you feel like you're cheating yourself, 30 minutes away from it. Commitment as a head coach is a little different than as a coordinator.”

Arians working on his health again likely means he is preparing for a prolonged stint on the Bucs' sideline, and it is just another way to get ready for the rigors of an NFL season.
