Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to rise up the Milwaukee Bucks’ record books, as he passed the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (2,008) for 7th all time in the franchise’s assist list.
The reigning MVP entered Thursday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers just four assists shy of the record.
Abdul-Jabbar played six seasons in Wisconsin from 1969-1975 and won a title with the franchise in 1971. Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, has improved year after year since being drafted 15th overall by the Bucks in 2013.
Up next in the assist list for Giannis is another NBA Hall of Famer, Oscar Robertson, who accumulated 2,156 dimes in his four-year career in Milwaukee.
He will likely break into the top 5 when it’s all said and done, as Paul Pressey is currently the franchise’s top assist getter with a total of 3,272, followed by Sidney Moncrief who dished out 2,689 asissts. Brian Winters (2,479), Quinn Buckner (2,391), and Sam Cassell (2,269) follow suit.
In six seasons so far for Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo has already topped two major statistical categories for the franchise, including defensive rebounds (3,256) and true shooting percentage (.594).
The Greak Freak’s numbers have improved even more after his MVP run last year, tallying 30.5 points (58.9 shooting from the field and 30.6 from three), 13.8 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks in 32.8 minutes per game.
Milwaukee is currently tied with the Boston Celtics for the number one spot in the Eastern Conference with identical 11-3 records. The team has won five straight games and is currently tied with the Houston Rockets for second overall in defensive net rating.
Antetokounmpo is determined to finally lead the Bucks to the title after last year's let down at the Eastern Conference Finals.
