Following their crucial win over the Atlanta Falcons, the Buffalo Bills are now set for a pivotal AFC East clash with the New York Jets in Week 18.

It was far from a flawless performance, but in the end, the Bills took care of business in Week 17 with the home win over the Falcons. Bills quarterback Josh Allen did not have his best game in the contest, as he threw a trio of interceptions. Still, it was the Bills defense that stepped up, as it racked up five sacks and also held the Matt Ryan-led Falcons offense to a mere one red zone touchdown drive.

Buffalo is set to face off with a Jets team that has looked to play the role of spoiler as of late. While the Jets have been quite unsuccessful in this attempt, they have provided some teams with late scares over the past month, which include their recent narrow defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bills plan on playing their regular starters in this contest, as they need to clinch a victory in order to repeat as AFC East champions and also secure a home game in the opening round of the playoffs. If they aim to accomplish this task, then they must achieve each of these four feats.

Bills Week 18 predictions

4. Bills defense silences the Jets in the red zone

As was the case for the past couple of years, the Bills have been posting yet another stout campaign when it comes to stopping opposing offenses in the red zone. The Bills defense has allowed a 51.1 percent red zone touchdown percentage so far this season, which ranks fifth in the NFL.

The Bills defense has its way against the Falcons in this area of the field last week. The Falcons offense had golden opportunities to orchestrate lengthy scoring drives, as it totaled for four red zone drives. Still, the Bills defense held Ryan and company to a mere one touchdown from these such drives.

The Bills defense should once again deliver in crucial red zone drives this week.

3 Devin Singletary has a feature role in the offense

One of the more notable criticisms of Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s play-calling as of late has centered on the lack of balancing out the offense for Allen. For one, Allen recorded 47 pass attempts and 12 carries in the Bills’ road win over the Patriots. Bills running back Devin Singletary notched a mere 12 rush attempts in the contest. While Buffalo prevailed in the end, this may not be the recipe for success moving forward.

The script flipped in Week 17, as Singletary was a focal point of the Bills’ game planning on offense in their win over the Falcons; he tallied for 110 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Falcons front seven did not have much of an answer for the dynamic rusher.

In Week 18, the Falcons should once again lean on Singletary to help balance out the offense for Allen. He could be in line for 20-plus rush attempts in this upcoming divisional matchup.

2. Josh Allen has a bounce-back game against a familiar foe

As noted, Allen was simply all over the place in the Bills’ win over the Falcons, as he turned the ball over three times and failed to build keen chemistry with wideouts other than Stefon Diggs.

Allen should get back on track against the Jets this upcoming week. The last time that he clashed with Buffalo's notable divisional rival, he guided the offense to six red zone touchdown drives en route to a 45-17 road win.

Overall, Allen has recorded five touchdown passes, five interceptions and an 86.1 passer rating in six career matchups against the Jets.

1. Bills clinch the AFC East with a win

One would have to go back to the late 1980s and early 1990s to find the last time that the Bills clinched the AFC East in at least two consecutive seasons. The Bills locked up the top spot in the division four straight years from the 1988 to the 1991 campaigns.

Allen should lead the Bills to a home win against the Jets to complete the season sweep over them, which would then guarantee Buffalo at least one home playoff game later this month.

In what has been an up-and-down season for the Bills, they at the least should achieve one of their preseason goals in clinching the AFC East.
