Entering his fourth season in the NBA, Chicago Bulls power forward Bobby Portis is reportedly in talks to renew his rookie deal with his club.

It was Portis himself who disclosed the news, as he discussed his future, among other things, with K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

“We’ve been talking about it,” said Portis. “We’re going to talk more in the next week or so. Hopefully, we get things done.”

As indicated by the 22-year-old, nothing has been finalized as of yet. Given that there is still one year remaining in his four-year rookie deal, it is also possible that the Bulls opt against offering him an extension, thereby having Portis play out the final year of his contract. If they decide to do so, Portis will become an unrestricted free agent next summer, and they will risk losing him should another team be interested in his services.

Nevertheless, Portis remains focused on further improving his game, and does not appear to be too worried about his extension.

“I’m not stressing about it. I still work as hard as I can every day. I let my agent handle all that. I handle everything on the court (and) just try to get better each day,” Portis added.

This is perhaps going to be the most important season of Portis' young career. The Bulls do not appear to be in too much of a hurry to hand him an extension, and he will need to put the work in and prove his worth.
