Philadelphia 76ers assistant Ime Udoka has emerged as the front-runner for the Chicago Bulls head coaching position, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.

New Bulls Vice President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas is in no rush to fire current head coach Jim Boylen. However, the expectation is that “Jimbo” will eventually be relieved of his duties. After all, the search for his replacement is on and no secret, writes Cowley:

“Sources have told the Sun-Times that 76ers assistant Ime Udoka is the front-runner to become the Bulls’ new coach, with Raptors assistant — and former Bulls assistant — Adrian Griffin also in the picture.”

Chicago has gone 39-84 under Boylen, who took over for Fred Hoiberg during the 2017-18 season. Most Bulls fans want Boylen fired since the franchise has been a walking disaster under his guidance.

It is widely believed that Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine and power forward Lauri Markkanen aren't fond of playing for Boylen. Karnisovas has been having conversations with the players and rest assured that the Chicago hoopers will be very honest with Karnisovas about their opinions of Boylen.

Chicago won't be going to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The team had a record of just 22-43 before the 2019-20 season was suspended in March after Utah Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19.

Chicago hasn't made the playoffs since the 2016-17 season. The franchise has been struggling since the Jimmy Butler trade. Perhaps the next coaching moves will result in better fortunes for the Bulls next season.
