When you go against the king, you better not miss. The Chicago Bulls, going up against the defending champions Milwaukee Bucks, missed… quite often, too. DeMar DeRozan, in particular, misfired all game long. The All-Star forward shot an atrocious 24% from the field in the game, costing his team a crucial Game 1 against the defending champions.

After the game, DeMar DeRozan made a bold guarantee involving him and his Bulls teammates. The forward stressed that he felt he got good shots in the game, and vowed that he, Nikola Vucevic, and Zach LaVine would shoot better in Game 2 against the defending champions. (via K.C Johnson)

“I don't know what the hell was going on. Probably a week off. It just wasn't me. Every shot felt good. I guarantee you me, Vooch and Zach aren't going to miss that many next game.”

The Bulls basically had the Bucks on the ropes the entire game. Their defense was holding their own against Giannis Antetokounmpo, even forcing him to the bench due to foul trouble. The pieces were there for the Bulls to steal Game 1 and gain home-court advantage back. However, poor shooting towards the end of the game killed any chance for a come back.

For the Bulls to have a legitimate shot at beating the defending champions, their stars need to step up big-time. Alex Caruso masterfully filled in for the injured Lonzo Ball, but Vucevic, DeRozan, and LaVine all shot well below league average. If they don't get their groove back… it could spell disaster for their championship aspirations.
