The San Francisco 49ers entered 2020 as one of the biggest Super Bowl favorites in the NFL. It certainly made sense, too, as they found themselves in the big game last year; they just so happened to lose.

We are only in Week 3, but the 49ers have already run into a pretty large speed bump. They are currently dealing with some absurd injury woes.

Here are just some of the players that will be out for San Francisco's Week 3 matchup with the New York Giants. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, tight end George Kittle, cornerback Richard Sherman, and pass rushers Dee Ford, Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas.

With that in mind, is the Super Bowl push dead? Can the 49ers really overcome all of this?

The simple answer is, no it is not dead—and yes, they can overcome this.

San Francisco is actually in last place in the incredibly tough NFC West. They are 1-1, and the other three teams are 2-0. However, they face off with the Giants this week, an 0-2 team that has looked pretty hapless for the most part. So, a win in Week 3 is very possible, even with all their injury problems.

The two games after that see the 49ers face off with the 0-2 Philadelphia Eagles and the 1-2 Miami Dolphins. Those are both extremely winnable games as well.

With that in mind, there is a legitimate chance the 49ers go 3-0 or at the worst 2-1 in the next three weeks. That puts them at 4-1 or 3-2 heading into their matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. At that point, it is reasonable to believe some of the injured players will be back.

Now certain talent, like Bosa, are out for the year. But others will be making their returns at some point. With the new playoff format adding an extra wild card slot, San Francisco is still very much alive.

Of course, their Super Bowl chances have suffered a bit here. Obviously losing some of your best players this early in the year will make it a hard road, and even if the 49ers do make the playoffs, it is not like that guarantees them a cakewalk to the Super Bowl.

The NFC West is super packed. The Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks are all 2-0. Due to that, it is very hard to see the 49ers winning the division this year.

That obviously takes them out of home field advantage territory as well as not getting a first-round bye. So the road to the Super Bowl in the playoffs is going to be an incredibly difficult one.

That is not to say it is impossible, though. San Francisco has an uphill battle. But their dreams of being Super Bowl contenders are far from over. Let's take a deep breath and reevaluate the situation in a few weeks. Writing off a 1-1 team seems like an overreaction.
