Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Corey Peters has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a torn patellar tendon.

Via Arizona Sports:

“Corey will be out with his injury, D-line-wise a little bit banged up there, but we’ll have enough guys to play and that’s all you can ask for,” Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said via Zoom. “He’s a tough loss, based on his leadership and his character and what he brings to our locker room. We’re just praying for a speedy recovery.”

Peters was carted off the field in the first half of Sunday's 32-30 victory over the Buffalo Bulls. He did not return to the game after exiting.

It's a tough loss for the Cardinals, as they are already without the services of outside linebacker Chandler Jones and cornerback Robert Alford. With Peters out of commission, the Cardinals will turn to players like Josh Mauro and Angelo Blackson.

Now in his sixth season with the Cardinals and 11th in the NFL, Peters has established himself as leader in the locker room. Kingsbury recognizes what a tough loss this is:

“Normally it's the players trying to gain the coach's respect, but he's one of those players where, as a coach, you're trying to gain his respect because he's that well-regarded in this building and this organization,” Kingsbury said, via ESPN. “Tremendous human being, tremendous player and leader and not a guy that you can replace in that capacity.”

Though they're expected to be shorthanded for their Thursday night matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, Kingsbury believes the team will have enough linemen to take the field.

Arizona is currently 6-3 overall and first in the NFC West, though the Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams are also 6-3. Let's see if this loss has an impact going forward.
