The Arizona Cardinals currently have Kyler Murray under center for their future, but according to Bruce Arians, the team almost drafted Deshaun Watson in 2017.

Arians was the head coach for the Cardinals back in 2017 and they were ready to draft Watson with the 13th pick. However, the Houston Texans must have had some intel because they traded up to the 12th pick to take the Clemson Tigers standout.

“Would have been drafted in the next pick,” said Arians to Tampa Bay media on Tuesday, according to Texans Wire.

The Texans have to be happy with the decision to trade up to take Watson, and the Cardinals seem very happy with their current quarterback, even though he is just finishing up his first season in the desert.

While the Cardinals may certainly be satisfied with their current quarterback situation, the draft selection that they ended up making in Haason Reddick instead of Watson has underwhelmed. Back in late October, Reddick was demoted to playing in only nickel packages and had been replaced by Joe Walker in base defenses.

There has been a lot of talk about Watson and Arians because the two will be going head-to-head in Week 16. To come out with a victory, the Buccaneers will need to play better than they have most of the season. On the season, Tampa Bay are giving up 276.8 yards per game (30th). Meanwhile, Watson has thrown for 3,668 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

All eyes are going to be on Watson and Jameis Winston in a game that could resemble a good old fashion shootout. This matchup wouldn't be possible right now if the Texans wouldn't have jumped ahead of the Cardinals to take their franchise quarterback.
