James Conner stepped up big time for the Arizona Cardinals in their Week 9 showdown with the San Francisco 49ers, so much so that JJ Watt was rendered almost speechless.

Already missing Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, AJ Green and Watt, the Cardinals were dealt another blow after running back Chase Edmonds limped off the field in the first half. Instead of falling to despair, though, Arizona found a hero in their time of need in Conner, who responded in the best way possible.

Conner scored three touchdowns, two rushing and one in the receiving game, to give the Cardinals a huge 17-point advantage by the end of the third quarter. He accumulated a total of 173 yards on 21 carries and five receptions. The 26-year-old was simply unstoppable as Arizona leaned on him to carry the offense in the absence of their other stars.

Watt, who's out for the season due to a shoulder injury, was of course tuned in throughout the match. And upon witnessing Conner's play, he was left in awe and couldn't hold back his excitement. Conner now leads the league in rushing touchdowns with 10, tied wit Tennessee Titans star Derrick Henry.

Without James Conner, it would have been a tougher match for the Cardinals. Of course the defense also deserves credit for making life difficult for Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers, but the results could have been different if not for the timely scoring from the former Pittsburgh Steelers RB.

The Cardinals will need Conner to keep the momentum going, though, especially with the injury bug that has bitten them. But by the looks of it, he is more than ready for the spotlight.
