Kliff Kingsbury's first season as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals has not gone according to plan.

Expected to revolutionize the Cardinals' offense this year, Arizona ranks just 22nd in that category with one game left to play in 2019.

To be fair to Kingsbury, the Cardinals have had their fair share of injuries, and it's not like he had a wealth of offensive talent to work with anyway, but that doesn't change the fact that he has fallen somewhat short of expectations.

While Kingsbury's job is safe, he understands he will have to engage in some rather unpleasant discussions with management during the offseason:

“It's the first time I've ever worked with a GM on that side of things,” Kingsbury said, according to Darren Urban of the Cardinals' team website. “With [team president] Michael [Bidwell] and [general manager] Steve [Keim], (we'll) sit down in a room and talk about each position group and be brutally honest with ourselves and each other and come to a good place. That relationship to me has been vital, with Steve, where we are very upfront with each other, with what he sees and what I see. Michael has the final say. I like where the relationship is at, and we'll find out after the season.”

Kingsbury added that knows he may have to make some changes as far as his assistants go.

Arizona is 5-9-1 on the season and surely seems to have a bright future with Kyler Murray under center and a fine group of young receivers, but Kingsbury and Co. certainly have their work cut out for them in an NFC West division that also includes the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks going forward.
