Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has broken his fair share of franchise records going into his 16th season in the NFL. It appears he is poised to add another notable milestone to his illustrious resume.

Fitzgerald ended the 2018 campaign in a tie with kicker and punter Jim Bakken for most games played in a Cardinals uniform with 234. According to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk, he will finally break the franchise record in the 2019 NFL season opener against the Detroit Lions:

Fitzgerald has played in 234 career games, the same number as former Cardinals kicker and punter Jim Bakken, as noted by Mike Jurecki. As of Sunday’s game against the Lions, Fitzgerald will be at 235 games, most in franchise history.

It is safe to say that there is no player more deserving of the honor. Aside from putting up Hall of Fame numbers throughout his career, Fitzgerald's leadership and selflessness has always put the Cardinals in the best position to compete.

Fitzgerald is not the only player that will be making franchise history against the Lions in Week 1. Quarterback Kyler Murray will also become the first rookie to start a season opener under center since Lamar McHan did it back in 1954. It is almost poetic that these two occurrences would take place in their first game together.

The Cardinals are hoping that it will be a positive sign of what is to come this season. Fitzgerald will be tasked with serving as a safety net for Murray as he looks to find his footing in the merciless league.
