The Arizona Cardinals are considered one of the early frontrunners to acquire the services of Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins. If they have any hope of seeing a return from wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, the future likely depends on it.

Fitzgerald has taken a wait-and-see approach to determine whether or not he will return for the 2018 NFL season. That said, he offered high praise for Cousins during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio:

“If you're looking at the top free agent QB's its gotta be Kirk Cousins…..I think he's gonna be a hot commodity, a lot of teams are going to be after him.”

The Washington Redskins recently made headlines for their acquisition of quarterback Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, Cousins is expected to headline this year's free agent class.

Fortunately, cornerback Patrick Peterson has already gotten a head start on the recruiting process by giving his pitch to Cousins a few days ago. Needless to say, he made an interesting case as to why he should consider Arizona on his short-list of potential teams.

The Cardinals are in the midst of a minor rebuild with new head coach Steve Wilks. However, they still possess one of the more star-studded rosters in the league and will have plenty of cap space to work with this offseason. That said, the addition of Cousins would undeniably get this team back into playoff contention. Furthermore, it would almost certainly convince Fitzgerald to play out the final season of his two-year contract.
