The homecoming of Terrell Suggs was cut short on Friday. The Arizona Cardinals waived the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer. They do so out of respect, as it was mutual.

On Friday, after Suggs' release, Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said the breakup was “mutual.” He noted that “the respect was both ways,” according to Jess Root of The Cardinals Wire. He also said that it was for the betterment of the team's long-term future.

“We’ve been having conversations as the season went on, as his role has been reduced and we’ve kind of made the shift to playing some younger players, moved Haason (Reddick) out there,” Kingsbury told reporters after practice on Friday, via Root. “In fairness to him to try and find a better fit right now, we released Terrell. I just have so much respect for him and what he brought and wanted to give him that opportunity.”

Kingsbury had nothing but compliments for the veteran Suggs.

“He was phenomenal in our building — work ethic, energy, the juice he brought every day,” he said. “His professionalism was through the roof so we wanted to give him the opportunity to find a fit if it’s out there.”

Suggs started all 13 games for the Cardinals before his release. He tallied 5.5 sacks and 37 combined tackles in the process. With Arizona heading nowhere but  Las Vegas for the 2020 NFL Draft, the two agreed that he would have a better shot to contend elsewhere. Now, he will be subject to the waivers.
