Phil Jackson recently held a team seminar for the Knicks on the triangle offense, but one big-time New York player was not in attendance. That would be Carmelo Anthony.

However, Melo doesn’t think anyone should look into his absence too much. He told ESPN’s Ian Begley:

“I don’t think nobody should look to, should even look at that. That was more for younger guys who was up there working out, training. Phil did that, Phil spoke to the people he wanted there. So it wasn’t something that was mandatory, it wasn’t something (where) I was supposed to be there.”

Whether he was “supposed” to be there or not, it’s an easy argument that the veteran leader of the team should be at a team meeting. With that said, there is a lot of turnover happening for the Knicks these days, so maybe Melo thought it would be better to give the rest of the team some space.
