The Boston Celtics are expected to consider free agent DeMarcus Cousins after striking out on Andre Drummond, according to Hoop Analysts Networks’ Evan Massey. Cousins was previously playing for the Houston Rockets, where he agreed to buyout after a not-so-impressive start by the Rockets.
Cousins averaged 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Adding him behind Robert Williams would be a solid front-court depth for the Celtics. It was clear that the Celtics were looking for a big man after courting Drummond to help their frontcourt. It’s been a mediocre season so far for the green and white as they’re currently seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.

Cousins has faced multiple brutal injuries in his career specifically an ACL tear and Achilles hill. It’s been an injury battle for him throughout the years but what’s great is he’s back on the court this season. Adding Cousins to the Celtics roster could provide three-point shooting, leadership, space on the floor, and as mentioned above, depth in the frontcourt.
One problem the Celtics have experienced all season is relying too much on superstars Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown. The Celtics tried to make major moves this trade deadline but ended up with Orlando Magic wing Evan Fournier (don’t google his last name), Washington Wizards' center Moritz Wagner and Chicago Bulls center Luke Kornet, which isn’t bad per se. The players they got rid of were Daniel Theis, Jeff Teague, Javonte Green, and two second-round draft picks.
With their moves this trade deadline and interest on the buyout market, it’s clear that the Celtics want to shake things up.
