Boston Celtics big man Aron Baynes suffered a broken left hand Wednesday night against the Phoenix Suns at home and will undergo surgery, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Aron Baynes has been diagnosed with a left fourth metacarpal fracture and is out indefinitely, according to the Celtics.

This is a big loss for the Celtics. Aron Baynes has played in 24 games this season and is averaging 5.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from beyond the arc and 86.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Celtics rookie Robert Williams will see extended playing time now. All-Star center Al Horford is still out with left knee soreness, leaving Boston's big man depth very small right now. The Celtics entered Wednesday with a record of 18-11, fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Aron Baynes won the 2014 championship with the San Antonio Spurs. He has career averages of 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 400 games with the Spurs, Pistons and Celtics.

The Celtics lost to the Suns and gave up 21 offensive rebounds. Boston is already missing Aron Baynes. Boston is now 18-12 on the year.
