The Boston Celtics are about to sign Kaiser Gates to a training camp contract to compete for the 15th roster spot with Tacko Fall among others, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Per Slam Online, the Celtics currently have 14 guaranteed contracts. Fall and Gates are under Exhibit 10 deals. Javonte Green, meanwhile, is on a non/partial guaranteed contract which will makes the three players prospects for the 15th and final roster spot. This is if we are to assume that general manager Danny Ainge doesn't make any unforeseen roster move. The Celtics also have Tremont Waters and Max Strus under two-way deals.

Gates entered the NBA in 2018 as an undrafted prospect. He joined the Chicago Bulls in the Summer League but was waived by the team before the 2018-19 season started. The 6-foot-8 Xavier product was then relegated to the Bulls' G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.

In 50 games for the Windy City Bulls, Gates averaged 12.7 points (40.8 percent from the field), 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. In the 2019-20 Summer League, he suited up for the LA Clippers where he averaged 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in five games (three starts).

The Celtics won't be able to add Gates to their G League squad as the Bulls' affiliate still own his G League rights.
