The sports world will certainly look to protest in response to the horrific scenes that took place on Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol. As a heavy slate of NBA games gets set to take place on Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics decided to strike first as they walked off the court prior to their game against the Miami Heat.

While it was heavily speculated that this could be a boycott of tonight's game, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Celtics do intend to play tonight after a brief players' meeting came to surface:

As simultaneously reported by ESPN's Tim Bontemps, both the Celtics and the Heat are on the floor and warming up for their Eastern Conference Finals rematch.

The teams jointly released a statement:

The nation reached an unprecedented level of turmoil on Wednesday as Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in a coup d'etat fashion. Congress was scheduled to meet at the Capitol in order to cement the transfer of power from President Trump to President-elect Joe Biden.

While Trump did expect his supporters to protest—which was originally the case—some of his more extreme fans turned Wednesday into a day that will, unfortunately, go down in history books in the future. Supporters of the current President made it as far as the house chamber while also occupying offices of some key political figures.

At this time, the commotion surrounding the Capitol has died down compared to what it was earlier, but there's no clear sign as to how long it'll take for Congress to resume their duties of verifying Electoral College votes.
