The Boston Celtics fell short on the doorstep of reaching the NBA Finals after losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday night. It was an admirable effort by the Celtics to push the series to the brink, but couldn't come through on their home floor.

Much of this lack of success came into their struggles defensively against star forward LeBron James, whom they simply had no answer for on the court. Following the game, Celtics head coach Brad Stevens voiced that James' performance in the series despite being the focal point in the defensive game plan was simply absurd, according to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports.

James had his way offensively in the series against the Celtics that led him almost single-handedly carrying the Cavaliers to success. He has been phenomenal with his play on the court still showcasing why he's still regarded as being the top player in the league. In the Eastern Conference, he averaged 33.6 points on 52.4 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from deep. This includes five double-doubles and a triple-double in the process.

What has been equally as impressive is that he has been able to take his play to the next level despite being in his 15th season in the league. James is a huge reason why the Cavaliers have found themselves in their fourth straight NBA Finals with a chance to secure the second NBA title in franchise history.

The fact that the Celtics attempted to limit his effectiveness as the central focus of their game plan and he was still able to lead the charge effective for the Cavaliers only speaks to his special abilities on the court. It just provides further support to what's been an illustrious career for James that he doesn't appear to be slowing down by any means.
