Boston Celtics small forward Gordon Hayward can't catch a break.

After missing the two previous games due to an illness, Hayward returned to the Celtics' lineup on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks, only to get hit in the chin and head back to the locker room with a trainer.

It's safe to assume that the doctors are going to check if Gordon Hayward has a concussion, because that was a severe blow the swingman took.

In 23 games this season, Gordon Hayward is averaging 10.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for Boston. The 28-year-old, in his second season with the Celtics, is shooting 41.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 88.7 percent from the free-throw line. Hayward has come off the bench in the last eight games he has played in, as he was struggling in the starting lineup.

UPDATE:

According to The Athletic's Jay King, Hayward is fine after cutting his tongue in the fourth quarter.
